HISTORY

Since
1995, New World Music has been committed to discovering, recording
and marketing the best music from the townships of South Africa.
A diversity of talent which is represented by the various albums
released to date. With help from partners and contributions, New
World continues to build bridges to develop Intsholo Skolo ( A
school for beautiful sound ). Intsholo Skolo is a township community
education initiative backed by New World Music Foundation; international
charity Ikamva Labantu and New World Promotions.
It
all began in a shack, deep in the heart of the Western Cape, when
producer Barney Rattle met a group of dedicated musicians who
were sharing their talents with children that otherwise would
have no formal music education. Barney decided to help them record
their songs in order for them to hear their own efforts.
Musical
instruments are scarce in the townships and thus the idea was
born to compile CDs, sell them, and in return help fund a music
workshop and contribute to a growing musical education project
called "Instholo Skolo" (School for Beautiful sound.)
Years
later and numerous songs down the road NEW WORLD AFRICA RECORDS
has arrived in europe with "Kunjani" the first offering
of authentic and re-mixed House tunes. Over the next year the
company intends to release much of the original music collated
over the last 8 years and work has already begun on a follow-up
to "Kunjani".
