AFRIBIZA HISTORY Music is found in every known culture past and present, represented differently at various times and places. Around 50,000 years ago, early modern humans began to disperse from Africa, reaching all the habitable continents. Since all people of the world, have a form of music, prior to the dispersal of humans around the world, consequently music may have been invented in Africa and then evolved to become a fundamental constituent of human life......enter the new world of AFRIBIZA It didn't happen by accident it was in the wind and through sheer determination, passion and belief, it is our offering to you from a collective of musicians, artists and entertainers come together as one working on the belief that all life today is connected. Instinctively one of the most empowering art forms which can truly bring us together , that music and dance, kinship systems, and ceremonies differed dramatically between region, race , creed ,colour . Yet instinctively touch us and move us to the one rhythm . Which cast a shadow over these these differences were probably less important than the underlying similarities which brought groups together for ceremonies, for trade, to intermarry, and which allowed the maintenance of myths, history and song lines, of fable culture and exchange cycles that extended over hundreds of kilometres, across the globe from Africa to Spain …… AFRIBIZA bringing with it , its own emphasis on distinctness and identity. We salute the oneness of all that have made it possible. THANK YOU

AFRICA GOT SOUL An album of classic soul tunes played on traditional African instruments by a Cape Town Band called Abavuki - featuring Papa Was A Rolling Stone, I Say A Little Prayer and Heard It Through The Grapevine and others. Abavuki is a group of young musicians from Langa, a township near Cape Town in South Africa. The name "Abavuki" which means "Wake up, early birds!" refers not only to their youth, but also to their philosophy of seizing the moment and getting things done for themselves. They developed love for music at a young age and started playing with various groups. Towards the end of 2001, they came together and began creating their unique brand of African Jazz using marimbas, percussion, brass instruments and even an operatic trained voice, weaving traditional African rhythms and melodies into a contemporary format, which is highly danceable and almost Latin American in feel.

HOLA CAPE TOWN

The very first Kwaito compilation from Cape Town and the first release from Mama Dance Studios, Hola Cape Town features the best of young township dance music acts. Dantai and Dimcop have already established a loyal following and Mama Dance Music Studios, based in Cape Town, has been providing a desperately needed recording facility for township youth since early 1997. Since then, Mama Dance has recorded hundreds of tracks from over thirty groups from the Cape Flats, many of whom are bound to feature in upcoming releases.

Mama Dance Studios, based in Observatory, Cape Town, has been providing a desperately needed recording facility for township youth from the Cape Flats. Founded in April 1997 as a bedroom studio consisting of a 486 computer and cheap sound card dabbling with Kwaito beats were three young guys from Nyanga known as the Shy Guyz. From there it was Dantai and Never Give Up and a move across the railway line in October 1998 to the new and improved Mama Dance Music Studios in Lower Main Road. It's now the end of 98 and we've recorded hundreds of tracks with more than 30 groups, all from the Cape Flats, all young, enthusiastic and motivated to make a career out of music. We've recorded HipHop, R&B, Reggae, African, House, Gospel Kwaito and the many variations of these styles that make up the South African music scene. "Hola Cape Town" is our first showcase of the new sounds of the Cape - there will be plenty more.
